Žlahtina is much more than the most famous indigenous variety of Kvarner. It is part of the identity of Vrbnik, the island of Krk and the entire region, and one of the strongest products through which Kvarner can build its recognition on the Croatian and international markets.
The Žlahtina – Kvarner Wines Queen project therefore does not start only from wine, but from the question of how to turn an indigenous variety into a contemporary wine icon.
Today's Žlahtina shows a much wider range than it was traditionally attributed to: from young, fresh and light wines to sparkling wines and aged interpretations to macerated wines, amphorae and dessert styles. It is precisely the diversity of styles that demonstrates the potential of the variety and opens up space for new gastronomic pairings and market positioning.
An important part of the project is the specially designed Italesse glass for Žlahtina, developed in collaboration with experts to provide the variety with a recognizable service and added value in gastronomy. We would like to especially thank Klaudij Jurčić and Italesse for their cooperation and understanding of the project's ambition.
We further connect Žlahtina with gastronomy through the Žlahtina Perfect Match concept, with Kvarner shrimp as one of its most natural gastronomic partners. This way, wine stops being just a product and becomes part of the destination experience.
Design and art are also part of the project's identity. Special labels, protocol editions and the Žlahtina Wine Gift Set show how wine can connect enology, design, culture, tourism and gift-giving. A special place in this is occupied by the artist Marijan Mavrić, whose work is connected to the protocol editions and the visual identity of the project.
The support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of Croatia, Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the Kvarner Tourist Board, the CPRR PGŽ, the Tourist Board of the Municipality of Vrbnik and the Municipality of Vrbnik is extremely important for the development of the Žlahtina - Kvarner Wines Queen project.
Our goal is not to change Žlahtina to resemble other varieties. Quite the opposite – the goal is to preserve its lightness, freshness, Mediterranean character and origin, but to give it a modern marketing, gastronomic and international framework.
