Wine temperature
The serving temperature of wine has a huge impact on the aroma and taste of wine and is therefore extremely important.
Young white wines are served on
8 – 10 °C
Aged white wines are served on
10 – 12 °C
Rose wines are served on
8 – 10 °C
Young red wines are served on
14 – 16 °C
Red aged wines are served on
16 – 18 °C
Sparkling wines are served on
6 – 8 °C
Dessert wines are served on
10 – 14 °C
Selection of glasses
Wine is served in clear and colorless glass glasses so that the color and clarity can be seen. The different shapes and sizes of wine glasses allow the full development of the sensory properties of each wine.
Sparkling wines
The glasses are oblong and narrow, their purpose is to retain the perlage and cold temperature for as long as possible (e.g. flute).
White and rose wines and aged sparkling wines
glasses are smaller in volume to maintain a cooler wine temperature and fruitiness (e.g. tulip)
Red wines
Glasses are usually larger in volume for the purpose of aerating the wine, which helps the complexity of the aromas to come to the fore and makes the tannins, characteristic of red wines, softer (e.g. Bordeaux).
Dessert wines
glasses are of smaller volume due to the high concentration of sugar and alcohol content in the wine (eg tulip of smaller dimensions).
